Gain control of your phobias.
A phobia is classed as have a feeling of overwhelming anxiety caused by a fear of a place, object, or animal.
Fears and phobias usually work hand in hand with each other however a phobia tends to be far more pronounced then a fear and usually develops when a person has an unrealistic view and sense of danger from the situation or object. Phobias can become severe, so much so that it can stop a person doing the things that they would love to do, the phobia becomes an obsession and stops a person from living there life fully, they may have to plan around the phobia causing restrictions to a day to day life.
Having a phobia can cause anxiety disorders as the phobia triggers the anxiety.
Anticipatory disorder is when a person can become anxious or have a panic attack when just thinking of the phobia.
The symptoms of Anxiety caused by Phobias include.
- Trembling of the hands.
- Sweating and dizziness.
- Shortness of breath.
- An upset stomach.
- Increased heart rate and blood pressure.
Common phobias include.
- Animal phobias– such as, spiders, dogs and snakes.
- Environmental phobias – such as germs, heights crowded spaces & shopping malls.
- Situational phobias – such as visiting the dentist or flying.
- Bodily phobias – such as needles and blood.
- Sexual phobias – such as performance anxiety or the fear of getting a sexually transmitted infection.
Complex phobias.
Complex phobias tend to be more debilitating than simple phobias. They tend to occur during adulthood and are associated with a deep-rooted fear or anxiety about a particular situation or circumstance. This could have stemmed from a childhood memory that has been repressed, agoraphobia being one of the most common complex disorders. Agoraphobia is a fear of open spaces, it is caused by the fear of not being able to escape which can then lead to a panic attack.
